Um. Wow. I drove to the bookstore to get *something* as a gift for a friend's birthday - a supposed 15-minute trip. They didn't have what I wanted (in material items anyway), but there was a really darling Diego Luna look-alike working in the magazine section. I think he was a wee bit uncomfortable in my wake. Maybe I was staring too much, or maybe I was just hovering too closely to the gay/lesbian section? Don't know. He was quite tasty. This was one of the factors which encouraged me to pick up a job application on my way out. ^^ After that, drove to the video store to see if they would be selling any tapes. When I pulled into the parking lot, who should pull in beside me but Erica, my ex-best-friend from freshman year. I haven't talked to her in about 2 years. Her mother loves me, however, and once clung to me and sobbed for about 15 minutes when she saw me by chance at school. I tried to run inside before I could be spotted, but her mom jumped out of the car and yelled my name. While Erica fled for cover in a nearby store, her mother hugged and cried over me, saying how much she missed me and loved me and wanted me to come visit her and to never forget her. I agreed to do all of that, but when Erica came back, her mother beckoned her over.Mom: Don't you love Jana too?!?!Erica: *nods, mortified*Mom: She's just the SWEETEST THING. Now you too are FRIENDS. You need to just.. oh, just get over it and be friends... ahh... HUG EACH OTHER! NOW!O_O So, yeah. We, uh, hugged. Talk about awkward, dude. I don't think her mom realizes that TWO YEARS LATER, we're not going to be friends. She and I are so different and we always were. It's just not going to happen. I even told her mom that in other words, saying that "people grow and change and some things just aren't meant to be", which she strongly denied, claiming that she NEEDed me, etc. Oi, vey. I'm the daughter she never had. She's a very sweet and wonderful woman, but I can't be in her life if Erica's a part of it, and inevitably, she is. >_> I can't believe we had to hug.Proceeded to other store that was semi-far away, and THEY didn't have it, either. Basically, VHS is being entirely eradicated for the new (more expensive!) DVDs. Dude, not everyone has a DVD player, damnit. Friend will just have to get her present late. Damn corporate America. -_-
